Matthew Welding  |  Head Brewer

Matthew is formerly of Quincy, Ill and is a 2012 graduate of St. Ambrose University with degrees in finance, management, & economics.

Matthew began his work in the industry as a bartender then later transitioned to assistant brewer. After four years in this position, he decided he wanted to go out on his own, bringing him to 5ive Cities Brewing.

Matthew married his wife Renita in 2016. Renita is a physical therapist at Rock Valley Physical Therapy and plans to join Matthew at the brewery part-time. They presently live in Davenport with their dog Henry.

Curt Johnson  |  Assistant Brewer

Like many brewers, Curt started as a homebrewer, brewing beer for fun in his garage. During his 6 years of homebrewing, his passion and obsession for beer began to grow. He became and is currently a member of the Quad Cities local homebrew club MUGZ.

In 2017, he was offered a position as a brewer in a microbrewery and within ten months was offered the position at 5ive Cities. He is very excited to be a part of 5ive Cities team and looks forward to making his mark on craft beer culture in the Quad Cities.

In his free time, Curt enjoys spending time with his wife and kids, woodworking, and riding his motorcycle.

Henry  |  Brew Dog

Henry is a golden lab who, lets be honest, is the one really in charge.

Henry loves to spend his day by Matt’s side “overseeing” the brewing process and offering his opinion on beer styles and flavors.

Although only a year old, Henry is extremely well versed in all things beer and has a very advanced palate for his age. During his free time, Henry likes to bark and strangers, nap, eat fine cuisine, and most importantly play fetch.
